Spinner,

Yeah, my weak and stupid point was that you couldn't get anything out of Colombia on a commercial airliner. He was from FL though, so the Colombia security comments are meaningless.

Re: Shots fired

It is unfortunate these situations always end up getting distorted by armchair quarterbacking. I don't really see the problem here. The marshall had mere seconds to decide whether one person is shot or a plane is blown. He choose wisely. BTW, LEOs are never shooting to kill, they are shooting to stop. Unfortunately, stop means dead in a lot of instances. I feel the marshall did his job, that is what he is paid to do. It doesn't matter how mentally challenged the person was, the marshall knew nothing of this. He just knew there was a fanatical man with his hand in a bag screaming "bomb". It is no different than a police officer shooting someone who is pointing a gun at him, only to find out it was a BB gun. It is all based on what a reasonable person would do in that situation, not how many ways it can be disected after the fact.

And could we PLEASE stop politicising everything on this damn forum, I swear some look for any excuse to put someone else down under the guise of politics. It makes me want to vomit. You are not better than someone else just because you have a certain political standing. There is nothing about this post that is political. Someone just felt like it was another glorious reason to bash someone else. Very, very sophomoric...

Jason my friend.
If that was directed towards me and I think it was.
Please read my last paragraph and NOTE the date time stamp.

This had already been on the news over a hour before I posted! And I did almost a exact quote of what was said.

I also added that its a darn shame.

Joe Blow does his job perfect then gets used as a pawn by the polictal parties and could loose his job over it.

Maybe I should have added that last paragraph to clear things up. iboats is a bit touchy these days.
I think we are on the same sheet of music here.

Naw Link, I wasn't aiming at you. I wasn't really aiming at all. You just only need to read page one of this thread to understand my mini-rant. The flipside is I can just ignore all that ill-informed heavilly biased nonsense if I want to, so I share equal blame in my own frustration over it. I am doing the best I can to avoid the threads that are clear political/religious trolls, but we have those few that feel they need to twist every subject matter into something that is somehow the libs fault. I can't be the only one who sees it. Cheers...

Re: Shots fired

The Marshall has the obligation to act if he feels injury or destruction will result, if he acts otherwise. The decision was made. No problem.

Do we investigate, always and for you who claim to be the "right" too bad. It is ignorant not to look at this instance and examine and learn from it. There I go name calling again, right Boomduh.

There may be better ways to avoid the danger, should he have been stopped sooner, was it done perfectly. Why were the Marshalls in first class only. Could other weapons be used.

It is only human and Christian to feel sorrow for the family of this ill man. I am sure the Marshalls involved are having issues as well.

If you have never killed anyone whether right or wrong, the feeling is not good. I have know many who have fired a fatal shot and met none who felt good about it.

Boom, You constant left/right carp is really weak.

Re: Shots fired

I read the AP article today and was outraged at the inflammatory line that this guy was "gunned down". As many have said, he claimed to have a bomb in his bag, he was ordered to stop and drop to the ground. He then started to reach into his bag. The Federal Air Marshall knew nothing mor ethan the guy was acting erratically, claimed to have a bomb, and was reaching for his claimed bomb. I think the Air Marshall did the only thing he could.

Let's all say a prayer for the Federal Air Marshall involved in the shooting. He must be suffering emotionally and second guessing himself, not to mention the intense scrutiny he is under right now. And let's be mindful that there may be more Federal Air Marshalls who shot at the deceased. I certainly would not want to be in his/their situation.

May God forgive and bless all those involved, even the deceased. :(

Re: Shots fired

I am quoting here.
"Federal officials said Thursday the marshals acted properly.

Deadly force may be employed only when a federal agent has probable cause to believe there is an imminent threat of death or serious pyhsical injury to himself, his partner or others."

The official goes on to say:
"Shooting to maim or injure- rather than kill- is not an option for federal agents. We are trained to stop the threat."

Well, I for one am glad to see the good guys get some praise for once.

Re: Shots fired

Since the Libs (sorry JasonJ. Not :p ) were unable to gain any traction by blaming the FAM, now they are saying that it is their training that is the problem.

Ya got to call a spade a spade Jason. It is not us, here on iboats, politicising this topic, it is the Libs.

Sorry if the truth Offends you txwinner.

Yeah Boom, the whole thing sucks, they just did their jobs for Christs sake. They are now wanting to investigate the entire training procedure for the air marshalls. It never ends. I guess if you put these people on a plane and their bacon gets saved by an air marshall who shot to stop someone, they would be singing a slightly different tune.

Surely you wouldn't suggest that we can ignore deadly threats made by passengers.

Anyway, just for your peace of mind, I can assure you that checked baggage does get screened for explosives.
