1981 Mercury 70 hp ob 3 cyl
boat sat for two seasons, ran it all last summer ran great , took it to dalehollow lake it started running real bad only running on two cylinders the bottem two should I try to repair or buy different motor?
Although these 3cyl 2 carb 70's are not one of my favorite engines...

Are you able to afford a new one? or is dumping 1k into this one more reasonable?

TMD
Hey marine doctor I dont think I want to put 1k in this motor I called a guy that can put a rebuilt 1990 Johnson 70 hp with power t/t with controls and prop for $2200.00 with warrenty I think I'll go this rout what do you think of the 1990 Johnsons? please reply
Jgregory I dont know alot about these motors but the information Im getting is if these motors run just a little hot the top #1 cylinder can easily burn up from not getting enough water to cool it was a bad design
the 90 jonrude is a good motor. what do you mean
rebuilt? what happened to it? what was done to
repair it? I'd certainly prefer a used motor that
hasn't previously blown up....
good luck,
M.Y.
sounds good... am always worried that a fried
motor will never be the same. my cuz has an '89
and it's a great motor.
if your not trading yours into the guy, you can
part it out and sell stuff on ebay to make back
some of the $.
good luck,
M.Y.
well, u can get a lil more than that parting it out, but may not be worth all the headaches.
maybe someone here needs a lower unit???
safe boating,
M.Y.
