should i buy a 1992 force 50 hp or a 1985 johnson 50 hp?

would a 1985 johnson 50 hp be a better choice over a 1992 force 50 hp? which one is more reliable? and which one has more parts? i want to buy the johnson, im just worried about how much older it is.

Shannon, I would definitely go with the Johnson but have someone check it out that knows what there doing. I was on a buddy's boat when his force 50 burned up for the 2nd time....Also be sure to have the person your buying it from put it in a trash can and start it up for you......Good luck on your purchase....Warren

I tend to agree with Warren. You will be able to find parts much easier and the Force really is not know for staying together. But, there are folks here who have them and with real good maintenence, have had good, long lived motors. I know it's a tough call when you are talking 7 years, but if the Johnson checks out good, I would have to consider it my number one pick. It really depends on how it was treated/used, are there any maintenence records with it, the hours on it and it's current condition(Most important). The Johnson 50 was/is a good motor, no doubt.... Ask the owner(Unless you are buying it at a shop), if you could have it checked out by a reliable dealer. If he refuses, walk away..
