Should I buy it?

Hello all, so I ran across a 1973 Starcraft 18ft with a mid 90's 70hp Force on it. The owner says it has low hours, and most of them have been from trolling. He only wants $600 for eveything! I have only seen pics of it, and the engine looks like it's been inside it's whole life. That said, is the 70hp Force a good motor? good enough to pay $600 for it? Is there anything to look out for on these motors?

Thanks in advance

No, that boat is a piece of junk.

If you give me the address, I go over there and make sure no one (else) buys that boat. :D

If the boat is in decent shape, and the trailer is sturdy, and the engine runs, is a bargain for sure.

That motor should push it 30+ mph, not super fast, but ok.

Make sure you check out the engine compression.
Anything from '92 is pretty decent and parts are available.

Best bet is for the seller to take you out for a sea trial demonstration.

Fiberglass or aluminum boat? If aluminum, better get to it before roscoe or I do!

Hehehe, I thought there might be a few Starcraft groupies chiming in :) Yep she is aluminum! I think the guy misprinted or something, cause this sounds a little too good to be true. I really want the motor for one of my smaller boats, then would find a bigger one for the Starcraft. I will let you guys know what I find this afternoon!

Update! so the Starcraft leaks like a siv, but is totaly worth the money. The engine is in awesome shape, has excellent compression #'s, and the greatest part is that the guy hates the Force brand so he's dumping it cheap! Score one for the little guy :)
