Six months ago I purchased a very clean 1987 15' Kingfisher fishing boat from a good friend for $800.00. The problem is (or maybe not) it has a 1972 Evinrude 50HP Lark Electric Shift motor. The motor is getting tired and I don't think it is feasible to pour a lot of money into this engine because if the electric shift shoots craps it would cost a mint to repair if I could find parts. Is this logical thinking?
If I do replace the motor I definitely want something used but much newer and within my budget which my wife hasn't yet determined for me. Which engine would y'all consider for a replacement in the 50-70HP range. I want a brand that is reliable. I would really like one of the newer engines in four stroke EFI, but know realistically that probably isn't in my budget.
