should I fix it??

ok I bought a 1988 Starcraft Medalist 1901 a few months ago for $500. I had the intentions on restoring the boat. I love the boat, but I dont know if I feel that way because its my first boat?? The boat has some major issues.. It is OMC powerd!! The boat needs the stringer, the deck, the transome, the engine and it needs new manifolds. I bought the boat a few months ago and have never put it in the water!! When I bought it, I got the engine to run, it ran pritty good but it has major freeze damage. The drive went in gear, foward and in reverse and still ran good. The oil in the outdrive was clean, no water or metal flakes in it that I seen, with no play at the prob. Could there be problems with the drive that will only show with the boat in the water?? My question is I need help trying to figure what I sould do with this one, am I just going to waste a lot of money on fixing this one?? Or shold I take my chances and fix it... Let me know your honest opinion!! Thanks, Bryan

IMHO-Nope.

Your heart is not in it. That's what I'm reading.

You can part out the OMC drive system and recoup your $500.00. Maybe more.

imho, yes it is the wrong boat to dump money in. the OMC, is not longer built or supported with parts, the reason you can sell the outdrive. why rebuild or buy an engine to go on an outdated outdrive, and then spend a bunch, to make the hull safe. 80-90% of the value of a used boat is the drive train. i would strip the boat of all good hardware, sell the outdrive, and part out the good part of the engine, and sell the hardware, or keep it for a future boat. trash the hull. that still leaves you the trailer.

boats are in no way a money making project. but if you sell of as described, you will not be hurt financially on this one.

so where is the best place to post the the outdrive for sale, along with some other parts. I was thinking cragislist, or something. I dont even know how much to sell the stuff for... LOL

just do some searching on craigslist for the value of the drive.......and craigslist is the best place for boat parts
