I have an '03 Lund 1700 ProSport that came packaged with a 90hp Merc 2 stroke carbed. Rating for the boat is 115hp. %78. The boat pops right up and rides at 39-40mph with two adults. I am satisfied with this. I just got it so I don't know yet how it will respond with a skier( a definite possibility with my teeenage son).

Should I look to upgrade to 100, 115hp 2 stroke or four, and what is my best window for trading a used motor to a new or another late model i.e should I consider this while my present motor is still relatively new or should I get a couple good years out of it and then look to power up as the boy grows? Thanks guys, I value the opinions I hear on this site!

Teenagers tend to grow up and get their own lives very very quickly.. :D I would think that you should consider whether there is any other reason for the bigger motor.. When they don't wanna go
out in the boat anymore.
We bought a nice caravan which was used for a couple of years until the kids thought they were too cool to hang with the "Old folks".. ;)

I think your 90 will continue to serve you well.

You won't see a whole lot of difference in low end grunt between a 90 and a 115.

Stay away from the 100/115/125 four cylinder Merc/Mariner for skiing. They run on 2 cylinders at low RPMs and 4 cylinders at higher RPMs. The problem is the transition between 2 and 4 which is right around the range where you'll be skiing at. These are lousy skiing motors, pure and simple. Most anyone that had one for this purpose would agree. Good for trolling and good for speed. Just plain crappy inbetween.
