hi....
I have a 1973 85 hp. evenrude that came with the boat i just bought and was wondering should i have the impellors changed and what else before i go out for a day of cruising? When i got it home i cleaned out the gas tanks and got a new fuel line with the squeeze pump and started the motor. It ran really smooth and no oil smoke. i let it run for maybe two or three minutes and turned it off. A friend advised about the impellors and wanted to know if i could do it myself. Thanks for the feed back

There is only one impeller and yes, you can do it yourself. A repair manual would be the best way to go.

I would replace the waterpump not just the impeller. By all means get the manual but make sure it is the factory omc manual. Another must check is the gear oil.
