^^^^^
No flakes and no messing with it before buying it
I guess that leaves me out.

Wait, he has a motor, that he does not know if it runs, that he wants 600 bucks for, and wants no one to mess around with it before they buy it? What a tool.

Ah yes, good old craigslist - half of the advertisers are trying to get everything for free and the other half are trying to sell stuff for multiples of any realistic value.

A Starflight VI, is a 1964, 75 hp motor. It might be worth a couple of hundred dollars, if it ran.

I'm sure it would be an absolute "pleasure" dealing with that seller !!!:D
I wonder if "Need to get rid of it ASAP" actually means "Need it to go away quickly because it is stolen":eek:

Typically CL exaggeration.

That is a $300 parts outboard. Maybe $500 if it can be demonstrated on the water, under load.

This guy pretty much demonstrates the WRONG way to write a for sale ad.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall as people show up to look at this item.
I'd bring a box of Wheaties as a gift to the seller.

Although I wouldn't advertise that way, I wouldn't want a bunch of window shoppers wasting my time, or making things worse, by wrenching on the motor they don't own.

Yeah; could be that he's had bad experiences in the past with people who don't know what they are dealing with.

If you really are considering buying his motor; I'd shoot him an e-mail explaining the reasons why you would need to do a compression test and a lower unit oil test before pursuing things further.

Briefly explain what would be needed to be done to accomplish that. Tell him that, with his permission you would show up with all the necessary tools and water connection etc.....If he is at all reasonable he should let you proceed.

If not.....well.....

Depends on the wrenching. If I were a buyer, and I couldn't start the motor for whatever reason, I would at least want to run a compression and spark test. if pulling the spark plugs qualifies as wrenching to a seller, I would think that they had something to hide.

It is sometimes hard to tell peoples' personalities from what they write online. This guy really does seem like a tool, but maybe he was just in a bad mood, or honestly thought he was offering a good deal.

Some people think because it's over 40yrs makes it an instant collectors item and worth lots of money running or not.

Oh no. The last Starflight I bought cost me $20.
I wouldn't pay more for one of these engine.

But connection? Im fairly certain this thing is laying in a bush on the desert sand in the guys back yard.

and Im pretty sure he got his info from this guy:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/boa/1918514029.html

He had the price on that thing at $800 a few months ago.
If you wanted the prop, that was an extra $200.
