I have a 2001 mercury 50 HP. the oil mixes itself with the gas (I dont put it in the gas tank but instead its own tank on the motor). I took it out yesturday and the carbs were clogged up a little bit but cleared up while driving. My question is should i run the gas out after each use. I usually use it once a week maybe every 2 weeks. Im cocerned that if i run it out of gas after each use, the oil injection system is going to leave oil in the carbs and i dont know if this will cause more problems. Anyone have any insight. Thanks

If you're using it that frequently then the problem is not old gummed up gas in the carbs, it may be a dirty carb, but not for that reason. People get paranoid about leaving fuel in the carbs, but if you're using it more than every few months you'll be fine.

Most oil injection systems continue pump oil even if there is no fuel being supplied, so you can fill the carbs with oil, not good.

Put fuel stabilizer (stabil) in ever tank, I've heard that the ethanol gasoline does not have a long life in the tank so this should help prevent problems

ive put some sea foam in the new tank of gas to help clean out the carbs. Maybe next tank ill try the stabil.
