Hey guys, my story is the same as Steelies. We have found a total of 4 DF60/70 that have failed with this very same problem. My 2001 DF70 failed with a defective camshaft at 68.4 hours. Prior to this failure it was great. My problem started trying to get it fixed and to get some plain facts out of the dealer and Suzuki regarding why it failed and was their fix (a different Part Number Camshaft) going to solve this problem. Still waiting to hear from Suzuki. The dealer won't talk to me. I have turned them into the BBB and the MN Attorney Generals Office. I sent them(Suzuki) a registater letter about two weeks ago. I attached the thread that Steelie started "Suzuki Outboard Warranty ######" on WWW.walleyecentral.com. I hope they read it. I also mentioned this message board. These motors are great until you have a problem. I was out of the water 3 months waiting to get it repaired. Thats a half a season in Minnesota. I would like to replace this motor, but the Yamaha dealer won't take it on trade. He said he doesn't want to re-sell it. I have a $7500 motor, can't trade it, and have no confidence in it. Suzuki, Please answer my letter.

hawkeye1<br /><br />I have two suzuki 225s the counter rotation motor is getting new suzuki replacement pistons heads rings and cylinders this is the 4 th power head the outher 3 were replacements and lasted aprox 20 hr each I am also on the 4th lower unit three had bad gears the fourth has the replacement parts to fix the problem it seems ok but too early to tell thats (4) power heads and (4) lower units in aprox 200 hr total dont buy Suzuki.

Fatboy<br /><br /> I have twin 225 Susukis. The counter rotation engine when repaired this time will have (4) powerheads and (4) lower units. The first (3) power heads were replacements Two went in aprox. 20 hr., the third in aprox. 60 hr., the fourth is being repaired? now. This time its getting replacement pistons, rings, and cylinder heads, these are re-designed parts supposed to fix the problem. First two lower units were rebuilt. The third one was replaced. They all blew. The fourth is a new unit with re-designed gears. It seems to be ok. Too early to tell. The dealer I am using has been outstanding, too bad the product is not. Have you or anyone heard of a "class action "law suite?

had the lower unit go out of my 3 year old 70 suzuki 4 stroke.took it to the dealer and he said that it appeared to him that it was bad shim job at the factory. out of warranty for a year. new lower unit would be about 3500 bucks canadian. a rebuild would be about 2 grand canadian. about 125-150 hrs. on motor with absolutely no prior problems. <br /> dealer told me to sit tight for a week and he would look into other options. his other options resulted in him getting 2 suzuki factory guys up to his shop to look at the motor. they agreed with the dealers assessment of a poor shim job.<br /> the result was that they furnished all of the parts for a complete rebuild at no charge and my dealer charged me a ridiculously low 415 bucks canadian for labor-which i suspect is less than half of his total cost for all of his time breaking it down, testing,rebuilding,etc. <br /> bottom line -in my case-is that i am one VERY satisfied suzuki owner and am quite pleased about how suzuki handled an OUT OF WARRANTY situation that i fully expected would cost me a couple of grand!!<br /> i couldn't be happier with this motor-it's the best i have ever owned.<br /> by the way my dealer is mike gouett of marsh marine in waubaushene ontario (southern georgian bay). i went to mike in the first place because of numerous testimonials to his integrity and quality of service. boy,was i ever glad i did! art hoff, burlington,ky & severn falls,ontario

It's June 2010 and I have been reading reports of problems with Suzuki motors that date back to 2000, I wished I had read them before I bought my boat. I have a 2007 90 hp Suzuki and it has been the worst time I have ever had. The motor has broke down three times and getting it repaired has been a battle. It is now broke down again after just getting it back and again I'm told parts are an issue. This time it sounded like someone dropped a tool box full of tools down the shaft!!! Warranty is worthless if the boat is always down for repairs,,,, never again,,,,

I wish all of you would have chimed in before I bought my 2005 df140 this spring. Been out 4 times on it. The rest of the time I have been making repairs to it. I have not had any problems getting parts though. Brownspoint usually has them to my door within 3 days. Hoping to be back out on the water soon.

Wow, dragging up a 9 year old post. ALL manufactures have bad apple once in awhile, Suzuki included. You have to remember that people come here to look for solutions to problems so you WILL see complaints. There are bad reports on certain model yami 4 strokes, and ever heard of Evinrude Fitch, horrible the first few years but the bugs got worked out. Its all in the luck of the draw and in general Suzuki 4 strokes have been good engines. They are pretty popular locally and the dealer carries Suzuki, Yamaha, and Evinrude and claims the suzuki engines have the fewest warranty repairs per engine sold. I guess I can't complain with over 1200 hours my 98' Johnzuki 70hp and its only cost me oilchanges and 2 sets of plugs.

Just my 2 cents I have the DF115 Thought it was an excellent motor reliable good gas runner and quiet, but when the warranty expired by just hours the manufacturer would not even talk to me about covering a defected area that I thought should have been taking care of. Yes the dealers are more than capable of working with you or for you at 100+ an hour and parts I have found are available if gone through (brownspoint.com). And I too fish the Columbia River and steelie is absolutely correct the bar is the most dangerous in the world I want the best motor I can count on and I will be selling this one as soon as possible. what kind of repairs? I have had a DF140 since 2002 and have done nothing but replace plugs once.
