Should I trade my '86 50hp yamaha for an '85 - 85hp Force

I need a larger motor for my 16' Lund (rated for upto 100hp). I am considering an even trade - my '86 50hp yamaha for an '85 - 85hp Force, but I am not familiar with the Force make.

Any feedback? Worth it - quality - enough power to pull an adult water skier?

force (as a brand name) is an orphan and it's last parent beat it mercilessly from 1992 to 1999. I should think that your yamaha would have higher resale value because of name recognition. It may not be a better engine but that won't keep people from paying you more money.

Yeah! Even though I'm a big Chrysler/Force fan, I would NOT even-trade the engines. I would sell the Yammy and buy another engine of whatever brand you like. If you decide you want it, the Force will have enough power to pull a skier and move your Lund quite nicely if it is running well. Not as fast as a Merc or Evinrude, but nicely--I would expect somewhere around 40-45 MPH.

NOOOOO!!!!, you can't swop the yamaha ..... think about it why would someone agree to give you a 85hp for a 50hp .........

Despite the great fondness I have for Force engines of the 80's, I would have to agree with Deejaycee. Ask yourself how much you'd be willing to sell your Yamaha for. Is it more or less then the 350 bucks or so 85 hp Force O.B.'s go for on eBay.
