Should I Use Ethanol-Free Gas with Old Evinrude?

I will soon be putting a 1968 Evinrude 3-horse Lightwin into use.

I've found that here in MN (apparently mostly due to pressure from vintage car clubs) one can find some gas stations that sell ethanol-free gas.

Should I use it instead of regular gas?

I've seen other threads on this, but what's today's thinking on the issue with the motor in question?

If you can get it, do. You will have less potential for fuel problems. Rick.

Just be careful about which fuel you're getting. Obviously 87 octane, ethanol free is ideal. We can still get that around here at a couple of marinas. Some stations offer ethanol free fuel but it's 90 octane. You're trading one set of issues for another.

Ok......excuse my ignorance, but what are the issues?

I think the ethanol-free gas here is 91 or 92 octane.

I guess he's gone.

Anybody else want to comment about the "issues" he mentioned?

Can higher octane gas cause problems? Is that what he was trying to say?
