Well I started my boat up last sunday thinking we were done with the cool weather. I live in Dayton, Ohio. I have a fourwinns 220 454. We are expecting lows of around 28-30 degrees tues, wed, and thurs night. With a high in the 40's during the day. Do you think I should winterize it again. I always thought that it would take a hard freeze to cause damage. I just do not want to take any chances. What do you all think? I thought maybe put a light bulb in the bilge. I heard of many doing this.
Thanks

For peace of mind i would at least drain the manifolds and block, then i would use the light bulb in the bilge...

I ran mine last weekend then they forcast temps in the upper 20's for night time lows. I had the same worries so i drained everything..

Winterizing and Draining to Prevent Freeze Damage are two completely different things.
Winterization is the process of preparing your boat, motor, and outdrive for extended winter storage. Extended being the operative word here. 4 to 8 months depending on where you live.
Draining to Prevent Freeze Damage on the other hand is for short term, Like several weeks.
All this is for is to prevent water in the cooling system from freezing and breaking blocks, manifolds, and other important engine parts.

If you expect a freeze and want to use a light bulb, that's great. Just remember to stay up all night to be sure that $1 light bulb doesn't burn out and destroy your $5000 engine.
Or, you could be the next contestant here at the Iboats forums for the "Why Is My Oil MIlky" contest for a cheap block found on ebay for a fantastically low price. Just send money, Bubba said it ran fine 10 years ago.

DonS, How would you reccoemend preventing freeze damage? I would love to get out their and fish soon but I am afraid of some night time lows. It has been consistently in the high 60's to 70's during the day w' temps dropping to 40 at night. Now as always we will get some cold front that will drop the night time lows to about 28 for a couple days with highs about 50.

I fish'n Boat about 10 months a year most years,....
And there's a Freeze Possibility for All but maybe 4 of those months........

All you have to do is Drain the Boat.........

On Mine,.....
I pull the 5 Drain Plugs,+ the Big Hose from the waterpump,.. up to 10 or more times a year.....
In My boat,.... That drains All the potential Freeze Damage points,.......
That,+ Flipping the Coolers over,.....

If you Know your boat,.... You can do the Same Thing.......
