Have a chance to buy a 1983 16' Lund, I think it's a Tyree, with a 70's Johnson 70hp for $800.00. Hull is pretty much gutted. Has single console, but no windshield etc. Motor is said to run well. Seems like a great deal to me and a good project. What do you thiink? Thanks.

Check the hull for damage. Aluminum can be repaired, but it can get complicated and expensive. There is a good chance the transom wood will need to be replaced. There are many threads in the boat building section on this site that document what's involved, it's not too difficult if you are handy. I've never seen a single console Tyee. Lund made several models like the Pike that had a single side console and no windshield. It doesn't really matter which it is, if the size of the hull suits you. $800 is a good price, especially if the motor is really sound. If your looking for a boat project, old aluminum Lund's are a great way to go. I say go for it.

I tend to agree- that would be a fantastic project boat. The structure needs to be in good shape though. The deal killer would be if there is significant hull damage or if the transom is rotted out.

If that is the case, then it is definately not worth it. As you know, old Lunds are extremely well built and things like floor replacement, etc, are workable and in the end make for a great project boat.
