I am installing new OEM greaseless gimbal 30-879194A02 on my 97 Bravo 3 and along the way found this youtube video explaining why the gimble bearing is a gimbal. In the video it is not a flat static 2D type inner race. The inner race is moving in X,Y and Z axis.

As others had commented on that video, I found both my new and old gimble bearing does not gimbal. Are we just unable to apply enough force?

Should I follow some procedure to break it loose OR it doesnt really have this gimbal freedom of movement?

P.S. Word of Warning. First two bearings I received each had one nice sized metal shaving in the grease on outside. This is a Quicksilver/Mercruiser part made in Italy. One was made in Aug other in Nov so from different production lots. I suggest a close inspection upon receipt.

with a bar like that in there it should swivel/gimbal. Just notice he has it in a vise and that is a long bar so it takes some force especially to get it moving

just stick it partway in and you can smack it up down left and right. if it slides right in to coupler no need to center it.
I installed gimble with the long alignment bar and the install ring/tool. Then inserting just tip of the long bar into inner race so as not to reach the grease protection barrier ring, i am pushing left, right, up and down and wiggling the trailer holding a 4000 lb boat, but gimble isnt gimballing.

My alignment is fine, so I guess it doesnt matter, but curious as to why it doesnt gimbal like the one in the video.

I have quality concerns because first two shipped to me had metal shavings and were returned.

Ayuh,...... It's supposed to move pretty hard,......
That factor allows us to align the drive to motor, 'n it to stay where you put it,...

Cool video, by none other than my friend, 'n former Mod. here at iboats,....
Achris,.............:)
