Should the bilge pump remove ALL water

I think this is my 5th stupid question in 5 days.

The bilge pump in my 1995 Chris Craft Concept 18 in located right in front of the engine in the middle of the hull. I still have about 1 - 1.5 inches in the "V" part of the hull from before it was put in the water last week when i owned it. I had the dealer put a hose in the bilge and start filling it to ensure the pump automatically kicked on and it did and started pumping it out.

It does not however remove all water. It will leave that last inch or so in the middle of the hull. Is this normal.

All knowledge is appreciated. I am assuming it is working properly and needs a certain amount of water to be able to pump but i just want to make sure.

Thanks,
Robert

it has a float switch, the water has to get high enough to trigger it, for it to come on. if you are trailering your boat, it should be stored, with the bow high, and the transom drain plug removed. you can also insert a scrap of Tshirt, (1" x 12" thru the drain, so it rests on the bottom of the boat, and hangs down 6 inches, it will work as a wick, to get all the water out.

i do the same thing, though i use a paper towel for the wick......

I keep my boat stored in the water at my slip. Is there any harm to having this inchof water sit there?

No,As long as the bilge has decent paint and there are no screw holes near where the pump mounts that may be staying wet.
