i am pulling the motor to replace the ring gear on he flywheel and replacing the oil pan, so shouldnt if i lift the motor out and put it right back, nothing should change so shouldnt it still be alined? i do have the tool, and i am going to check, but i am just curious. and just making sure i am correct, it has to go in easily, and should you rotate the motor and check it in different times?

In theory, it should be fine. You check it just to make sure all is ok after putting it all back together.

also, i have read on here about the ring gear and that the hardest part is getting the flywheel off. i have always dealt with trucks and it is just 6 bolts, is there something else to getting the flywheel off a marine motor??

Not really. The coupler comes off typically with 4 bolts, then 6 bolts in the center of the flywheel and a light whack with a rubber mallet to knock it free ought to be it. Thats the entire flywheel and ring gear assembly. If you're changing just the ring gear, you have to get the old one off, and the new on. Not sure how thats done exactly, but I seem to remember being told it involved freezing one and heating the other.

yeahi know that part, heat up the ring so it expands and freeze the wheel so it contracts.
