Re: Show your tow vehicle (TVOTD)
Good topic, good thread. I just don't see it replacing the HOTD thread.....
Anyway, I tow with a 97 Merc Mountaineer AWD V8. Great tow vehicle. But lately I have been using my 98 Lincoln Town Car (2000 lbs tow capacity). The Town Car is a rarely seen edition called Touring Sedan. It comes factory with a few extra horses, true dual exhaust with crossover pipe, 3:55 rear gears (regular TC has 3:08), trans cooler, power steering cooler, heavy duty sway bars, firmer front coil springs (rear are air), gas shocks, high stall torque converter, I added a Trac-Loc rear, 17" alloy rims w/ 255 50 Falken Zex tires, performance mufflers and a class II tow hitch by Hidden Hitch. I have backed this car until the water almost touched the axle, and pulled the boat out of the water on a wet ramp countless times without any problems. Once I spun the tires on a ramp that was wood and covered with green stuff.
One great part is that the T/C gets 17 mpg towing at speeds of 55 mph and 15mpg at 60-65 mph. My boats weigh in aroung 1400lbs for the MFG, and 1700 for the Bayliner.
It makes a nice tow vehicle. Big, heavy enough the trailer does not push it around (4000+ lbs), and I'm sure the low profile tires help keep any wiggle to a minimum. The air suspension lifts the rear end back up to normal height when loaded so the headlights are not pointing into the sky at night. It is truly a pleasure to tow a smaller boat with.
Here is a pic with the MFG hooked up. And, no, I don't tow with the motor down. I use a support bar.
