Hey...I'm Shane and I'm a newb (to this board and to boating). My tow rig is a '02 Ranger Edge 4x4. It's Lifted 4" and rides on 33" mud terrains. 4.10 gears with rear limited slip. It's got many more mods, cause I'm an offroad junkie.

Here's my previous tow vehicle. 1976 Dodge Adventurer Crew Cab Long Bed with a 440/727. That thing was always fun to try and park with a 165" wheelbase.

Here's what I towed my first boat with. A 1972 Dodge Charger Station Wagon. It's actually a Dodge Coronet wagon that I made into a Charger. The only parts that simply bolted on were the hood and front bumper. I had to splice most of the Charger fenders into the Coronet fenders. I even welded in the Rallye door depressions into the front doors.

How does that effect the your engine performance (e.g. gas milage/horsepower/torque) ? I assumed you're running on the OEM exhaust manifold. I thought about installing one on my 03 Stratus R/T. After much consideration, I decided it wasn't worth it without the performance manifold and I can't afford both of the upgrades.

You might want to look into the construction of the manifolds. On the Ford 4.0L, the manifolds were made "extra beefy" with a excellent flow. Headers make very little improvements. I picked up maybe 10HP and about the same in ft/lbs with the CAI. Of course that was tested with the most accurate "butt-dyno" in the neighborhood. I did not notice a difference in fuel consumption; speaking of which, I wish my truck was as easy on gas as my boat. I get 12.5mpg in town and about 15mpg on the hwy. When I tow the boat it drops to 8mpg. The boat, on the other hand, burns about 3/4 gallons/hour at 4000rpm. BTW, the big tires on the truck didn't make a difference in mileage...but they made a big difference in mud slingin' and road noise. :D

Lol. That's my "winter" hitch. It gets a fair amount of use when we get a big snow storm.

Yeah, and what's going on with the CJ-5 I see there?...

Good eye! It's a '74 and I'm rebuilding it for a trail vehicle. That is a glass body just sitting on the frame. It has a warmed over 304, t18 trans, dana 20 t-case and a dana 44 rear axle. I bought it when I was in high school. It's the second vehicle I bought. It was a true sleeper even when it was stock. A few IROC Z's and Mustang 5.0's can remember seeing it's tailights. One of these years I'll find the time to finish it.

Re: Show your tow vehicle (TVOTD)

Ok..the Ranger that I previously posted has SADLY been traded in for something more PRACTICAL :( I now have a 2002 Ford Explorer 4X4 Eddie Bauer. It is loaded and very cush. I feel like a freakin' soccer mom, but at least my wife, my parents, and her parents all think I've finally grown up (hehe...)

But, hey...it's not all bad. The truck actually pulls the boat better than my Ranger did (although I already miss the tailgate) and as an added bonus, it matches my boat...which we all know is the most important thing :D

My son's boat, an 89'- 19'Bayliner Capri Bowrider with a 125hp Force motor, & orig trailer. Being towed by my 2005 Hyundai Tucson LX AWD 2.7V6 Auto. (4.40 gearing) 4 wheel disc brakes, it tows better then my 96' GMC Sonoma pickup with the 4.3 Vortec Auto. & 3.08gears, and stops better too! I towed it to him, (no choice) from Milford Pa. to Charlotte NC, 2 mos ago, with no problems anyway! I now have my own 89'- 19' Bayliner Capri Ski Boat, with a 125hp Force motor, & Venture roller trailer (as in my avatar), a somewhat lighter package, I tow regularly 40miles round trip to the lake.
