It seems difficult to adjust the temperature on our shower. You only have to move the handle very slightly to go from freezing cold  to scalding hot  . Any suggestions on what could be wrong.
Thanks.

Make sure the shutoff valve to the cold water side is completely open.

No equalization , new installs have a tee by tap and piece of pipe going up 12" or so and capped on both sides hot side, cold side or your heater is set to hot

Dolluper, Are you talking about the 'bump tubes' ?? If so, I thought those were for water hammer. Anyway, the valves I've seen on more modern one's have an anti-scald setting within the valve, perhaps it's set too far one way.

I have one of those Twidget and your right, it sucks. Our master bath has the other kind....too hot or too cold, can never get it just right. I never had these problems with two knob faucets.

There the ones put in to equalize the system so if another tap is turned on you don't get that flash of cold or hot when someone else is using hot or cold, they put hot you get cold and visa-versa

Why cant they have a smart shower with an "on/off" switch and a thermostat.

Or what would be really smart is individual heaters for every shower. Instant hot water. They have them in third world countries for about 50 dollars each.

Ken

You could always have the wonderful shower in my house. It has one of those knobs that once you turn it, the pressure stays the same, all you do is change the temp. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, it will never get really hot.

I hate the thing, but the good news is, the washing machine or flushing the toilet wont scald you either.

Had the same problem in my last house.
The cold water pipe was 3/4 filled with mineral deposits.
Ripped out the old corroded supply lines, installed new.
Kept the same faucet.

Problem was solved.

On demand water heaters are available.
No tank, fit in the wall cavity, the most convenient are electric, expensive. $700+ and require 220v, and a 120 amp breaker.

I had a plumber tell me that if the supply line between the valve and the head is over 1/8 pipe or 3/8 copper it would make it hard to adjust   Bob

Turn down your water heater a bit. Worked for me. Hot water was just too damn hot. :)

Good Luck.

KenImpZoom,

They have those insta-hot showers all over the UK too. Believe it or not, they're still hard to control and they make a flippin' racket like a little 12 Volt air compressor.

We had the electric ones in Thailand and there was no noise. They even had gas versions.

They have them in the USA, but they are freakin expensive. Gimme a break, its just a simple heat exchanger.

Would make a lot of sense to me, think of all the water you throw away waiting for the hot water to heat up.

Ken

I think the racket may be a suplemental pump. I have an insta-hot on my RO unit for making tea etc. That thing doen't make any noise. Works real well too.
