Well,

I took two old, not-working refigerators to a local scrap/junk man. This good follow actually paid me 10 bucks each!!
Gotta love that.

After getting the friges unloaded and collecting my $20, I asked if he ever has any old OB boat motors come through his place. He answered "Yes" and invited me to come look at them.

20 minutes later I drove off with these two numbers in the back of my truck. he easily lowered his price from $40 to $30 for the pair, so I returned his $20 from the friges and kicked in anotehr $10. To me that counts as 5 bucks a piece!!!

OK I hosed that post and submutted while trying attach some pics..... sorry 'bout that.

Here are some photos.

This one is a 1949 Firestone 5hp twin, built by Scott-Atwater. Yeah, it's kinda rough. The cowl is a busted-up, the FNR shifter is stuck in neutral (might have something to do with the plumbers strap around the lower unit).
It turns over and feels like it has good compression on both cylinders, good sign there.

This one is a bit more of a mystery. No decals, or much paint, left on the tank. No Mfg tag found yet so I am not sure what year/hp it is.

The only numbers I have found do not work out with the Scott-Atwater M/N schemes

463 43254, stamped into the side at the top of the leg/exhaust housing were it bolts to the bottom of the cylinder.
463 1881, cast into the sides of the cylinder.
463 18613, cast into the bottom of the crankcase.

If anybody has any info on these I would be grateful to hear.

2nd one, the mystery motor, is a late 40's 3 horse...both are good, stout motors.

Nice find. :D I like the old Scotts. What's even better is rescueing them from the waste. Have fun with those gems.
