The motor is a 6603B-E01141<br />It cranks up and runs as long as the throttle is above shift and the mixture control is screwed all the way in. If I turn the throttle up to fast then I can open the mixture a very little bit, otherwise it has to be screwed in all the way. When throttleing down to the shift position it cuts off unless I use some choke. The lowest I can go is a hair below the shift position (with half choke), then it cuts off.<br />Are parts available for this motor? I don't want to start taking it apart if I can't get the parts. I feel like the carb needs a good cleaning, or maybe a rebuild.<br />Also, can someone tell me the procedure to set the timing?<br />I would also like to replace the impeller.<br /><br />Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.<br />Dee Seegers

Welcome to iboats Dee!!<br /><br />Sounds like a carb overhaul is needed. Your idle passage is plugged. Take a look at the gasket between the float bowl and carb body. If it's black, then it's probably original equippment. The carb kits are still available from any John/Rude dealer.<br /><br />No timing to set on these puppies. It's done for ya' with the magnets in the flywhee. Points, codensers and coils are also still available.<br /><br />Yep...impellers are still available also.<br /><br />Keep us posted if ya' have any other questions...thanks.

I just did all those repairs on my Fisherman 6 1974 model. Just to let you know if you have the model with the one fixed high speed jet in the bottom of the float bowl, they are no longer available for purchase. Cleaning everything out and then blowing it out with compressed air is the way to go as well.I thought that I had everything cleaned but it was still running rough so as a last resort I blew out every thing I could and finally something came flying out of one of those hard to reach places. She's running great now. I also had a bad plug wire which was chafing against a fixed part inside the cover and every time i opened the throttle it started to run rough. Good luck

Great news. Thanks!<br /><br />About the points...It says on the flywheel .020. It also has two marks that are 180 degrees apart. What do I line these marks up with in order to set each set of points. I've had the flywheel off and cleaned them, now I'd like to make sure they are correct.

Look on top of the cam. May say "Set" or "Top". Line the point wiper up with this and set point gap.

Ok, I pulled the carb, gave it a real good cleaning, blew carb cleaner and air through every hole I could find, reassembled and test run.... still won't run slower than "shift" on the throttle. I found two little holes side by side in the carb venturi and I "think" they are clear. Then I found another tiny hole just on the other side of them and ran a little piece of wire in it also. RE reassembled and test ran...<br />No change! It still won't idle! Am I missing something? I ordered a carb Kit from NAPA and I hope it does the trick, (# 18-7043 ).<br /><br />Dee

There is a timing ajustment for these engines. Get a manual.

To set the timing, gap the points at .020" with the point cam rider aligned with the crankshaft keyway. After that there is nothing more to adjust, other than synching the magneto plate cam to the carburetor cam rider so that the rider makes first contact at the mark on the cam....<br />- Scott

I fixed my brotherinlaw´s 1974 Fisherman, last year. Wouldnt iddle low too. Around the lowspeed needle there is a retainernut with a leatherlike gasket inside. Unscrew the nut, take the gasket out and grease it well. Put gasket and nut back on. Tighten nut to you can just turn needle without too much force. Reason for no low iddle on his was that it drew false air through the leaking gasket, instead of gas. Afterwards adjust iddle mixture. His iddled like a 4 stroke after that. Be aware, it has no stop switch, you stop it by turning throttle all the way down. GREAT motor.
