1977 Evinrude 115
Engine rpm was dropping for about a second every 10 seconds or so, then it stalled like it ran out of fuel. Tank was half full. It starts but stalls as soon as given any throttle. Checked fuel filter, diaphragm behind filter, changed tanks, fuel lines and primers. Also it stalls most times it is put in gear and won't start unless hi idle lever is up.
Thanks for the help.

Like another guy said. No expert here. Some others will chime in no doubt.
When is the last time your carbs were serviced? Sounds like trash in a carb. KR

Re: Sick Evy 115

but what are they doing when they service it. should go in every fall, that way they change the lower unit fluid, to check for water, water in the lower in the winter can freeze and crack the lower case. are you using portable of built in tank? are you postive the vent is clear on the fuel tank. does squeezing the bulb help. what are your idle rpms, IN GEAR IN THE WATER? i'm betting dirty carbs, idle too low, clogged vent. one or a combination.

Re: Sick Evy 115

Freezing is not a issue here. I have 2 portable tanks so I doubt the vents in both tanks clogged. The engine ran fine up until a week ago. When I checked the filter it was perfectly clean. I don't have a tach on the boat so I'm unsure of the rpms but they seem to be the same as when it ran good.

Re: Sick Evy 115

I think that you are dropping a cylinder. Have a compression test done first, then a spark test. Clean all of the ground wires and the attaching surfaces.

You might want to examine each of your four ignition coils. If they are cracked, swollen or discolored, the may need to be replaced. It is good shop practice to remove them and clean the mounting base.

There is a grounding strap running from the coil rack to the starboard cylinder head, it needs to be in good shape and have clean connections.

Thanks for your help guys. I did a compression test and the left side cyls have zero.

I've found a rebuilt '84 Johnson 140hp. to replace the '77 Evinrude 115.
Anyone know if these are close enough in size and of the years that share common parts.

Those really do not have any parts in common, totally different series.
