Hey guys got a question about mounting my new fishfinder on my toon. I have a 20ft Manitou Fishhawk with the bracket on the left tube. I am trying to see how to mount it so I wont loose signal when I am going at top speed. I currently have a 571DI on it and it works fine at slow speeds but I loose it when I open it up. I made an extension to get it lower in the water and it helped some but still loose it when going 1/2 throtle or higher. Has anyone mounted the transducer under/bottom of there transom???? Or any other ideas???? I have started the mounting of it yet. Thanks guys

Re: Side Image Transducer

I have a similar problem on my pontoon, will be playing with positioning more this weekend and let you know what I fund. Unfortunately it is likely not to be much help bc of the large difference in hulls, but who knows... :)

Keep us in the loop on what you find out!

In order for it to work at any speed it has to be in clean non turblent water, on a pontoon that is on the end of one of the logs, it needs to be deeper in the water. it dose not work very well on a transom pod.

Side imaging works best at under 8mph. Perhaps you are going too fast.

Re: Side Image Transducer

Generally the bass boat guys use 2 transducers with a switch. Side imaging for when they are off plane and a standard 2D for running at speed. The SI transducer is mounted so that it is not even in the water when the boat is on plane.

Not far at all. I just bought a new Lowe pontoon from Cabela's. I put a 581 on mine. I have not had to putz with the x-ducer yet, but I'll let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks.

So can you just mount it lower? Have you tried changing the switchfire to see if that helps?

Re: Side Image Transducer

I can mount it lower with some rigging and that is the plan and it will be a couple of weeks before I get out on Chisago to try it out. Let me know how it goes for you and I will post back and do the same.

Re: Side Image Transducer

I finally got my sonar rigged and I got to test it out yesterday. Worked flawlessly at all speeds. No rooster tail coming off it. I mounted the Xducer about dead level with the bottom of the log. BTW I have mine mounted starboard log.
