My 3.8 Liter inboard seized up the first time in the water this year, after about 3 minutes, half throttle. Was able to get it turning over again after a couple of hours. Have now pulled the motor and inspected bearings etc. No obvious sign of major problem, seems to be small markings on all main and rod bearings fairly evenly. However, the oil was quite milky colored. Thought it may be getting some water in, possibly through the manifolds but pressure test shows they are OK. The oil is very gassy smelling which may indicate a faulty fuel pump letting fuel into the engion. Would fuel mixed with the oil cause the engion to seize?

Re: Siezed Motor

If the oil was milky it was water contaminated. You may have blown a head gasket... maybe water came in thru exhaust and that helped blow a gasket.

Measure, inspect, replace the gaskets and might as well do the bearings to since you have it that far apart. Check for bent push rods and piston rods. If you did not suffer any block damage you may be okay.

Bob
