Re: Signs of salt water?

Really it does not any worse than some of the fresh water boats I have run into up here in Montana, I don't see anything out of the ordinary that would indicate salt use..

Is there something in particular that is worrying you about it being in salt water? How does the metal trim on the rest of the boat look, lots of pitting, etc?

Really doesn't look like salt water use. Does it have an enclosed closed system? If it was used in salt water with raw water cooling, then I would be concerned about the risers on the engine.

Re: Signs of salt water?

The boat originally came from the USA and imported to canada so thats why I was wondering about the salt water. It does look beat up for its age. A friend of mine is looking to buy this boat and I told him that I would check here for tips before he buys it. Here are more pics of the interior. Looks pretty ratty. Normal prices for these up here in canada are $13,000 but cause of its condtion this one is going for $8700

Looks like it was certainly in some SHALLOW water at times.

I'd keep looking. Obviously left uncovered for a while. Rot could be starting. Price is too high for an entry level boat that didn't cost a whole heck of a lot new. If it's got the 3.0L, definitely too much $$

Re: Signs of salt water?

What state was it previously registered?
It could be a flood or hurricane salvage boat.
Check engine bay for excessive corrosion of wire terminals, etc.

The boat doesn't look like it was used in salt water (check for rust around deck hardware for that) but looks like it may have been kept in fresh water. The trailer certainly has never seen salt.

Why does it matter?

Are you another of the people who thinks salt water is death on a boat?

My boat has been in salt water all its life. Thousands of boat are used in or even kept in salt water all their lives.

It would be a sorry boat that could not be used in salt water without damage.

What is important is the condition of the boat and the maintenance it has received over its lifetime. If you are concerned, you can hire a surveyor to provide a written report of the boat's condition.

It looks to me like it may be being sold by the original owner, and this was his first boat ever....and he didn't know about maintenance...keep this prospect on the back burner and keep looking....this one looks a bit rough for a 2003....

No, it does not look like it was used in salt water regularly or at all. I agree with the others that it looks neglected. And that is a bad sign.

Re: Signs of salt water?

If that much lack of care was taken on the inside where it is cheap to maintain how much care was given to it where it counts? I wouldn't buy it unless he came down to $4700 enough for me to repower with a new engine and outdrive.
