Hi
i just got my outdrive lower unit back from repair. about to reassemble it and attach back to the transom. I have the gasket kits for both sides. Now my question is should i use some sort of silicone sealant with these gaskets? something else? or nothing at all.

Mercruiser, OMC, Volvo, BMW????? A little more info is needed here.... Let's start with the make and a serial number.

If it's a Mercruiser then I use no sealer on the bellhousing gasket, but I do put a very thin smear of silicone on the gimbal housing seal.

All gaskets go on dry unless specified differently. You do have a manual don't you?

Re: Silicone? or something else?

it is an omc cobra. I dabbed some silcone around it lightly to get it to stay put while mounting the drive, it was impossible otherwise. I wonder if there is a way to check and see if water is getting into the gimble housing bellow
