Simple oil question.....LOL not really another oil thread

Simple question only because I dont have a manual for this engine.

I have a 1993 Mercruser 7.4 300 Hp ( 454 ) The boat is in the shop at the moment, I guess I could just ask my machanic when Im in there but as he puts it, he never gives a streight answer lol...

I need to know how many quarts of oil it takes to fill to capacity when you do an oil change....MOTOR OIL NOT gear lube. I want to change my oil and get it ready for the summer. It was done before I bought the boat last Nov. and since there is NO winter here there is no winterizing so its going to be done right now at the start of the season.

i don't know yer engine capacity. however, if yer gonna work on yer own boat, ya should get the oem service manual from mercriser, it'll tell ya the quanity. or, ya could replace the same amount ya take out and use the dip stick for the final fill to proper level......

ya should find a different marine tech then, ya really should get a straight answer from yer tech.......unless he don't know too, then ya should still get a different one as he must not have the proper service manual too....

Ayuh,......

I believe your motor holds 7qts...... Including the Filter.....

But,....
As Ziggy says,.... Put back what you take Out.....
Drop in 5qts.,+ then Check it on the Dipstick......
You'll know from there whether you're getting Close yet or not......

Yea I figured Id do that, start with 5 and check the Dip Stick. I was thinking 7 as well its got a huge oil pan.
