Simple overheating question

I know this may sound like a dumb question but I am having a debate with my mechanic.

On a V6 mercruiser engine, what is the most popular main cause of a Blown Head Gasket Or a Cracked Cylinder Head.

Overheating.

Blown head gasket = overheating (almost always). Cracked head or block = 1) freezing due to improper winterizing where necessary, or 2) Overheating.

I wouldn't say overheatng or cracked anything is popular with anyone. But it does keep me in spare cash during the summer!
