Sink or Float?

In restoring my old '61 Alumacraft I see the seats still have the styrofoam inside. I'm wondering what the life span of that is and will it still keep the boat afloat. My guess is it's ok but would like to ask the knowledgable people on this forum.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Sink or Float?

Need more info. Is it bench seats? Some of those tinny boats can still swamp and sink. it depends if you follow the coast guard tag but in your case its from 61 so you dont know how much weight its rated for. So its kinda of a tuff question if it got swamped wether it would just swamp or sink to the bottom. Its going to be hard to tell.

The seats are box type with open bottom and styrofoam inside. At first I thought they were 4 sided air chamber.
