My power trim won't hold the motor all the way in the up position. If you take off the lock, you can hear it start to sink just a little at a time. Click, click, click, etc. Eventually it will sink until the lower unit is touching the ground. Also, if I reverse hard, the prop will pull the motor up out of the water. How do I fix this?

Re: Sinking Power Trim

I try to buy my parts localy but any marina should have the o-rings you need. However, if the center ram is scored that is around 90-100.00 unless you know who can machine a new one.

first your going to want a diagram.
Try this: www.stemtostern.com/MercIndex/GetDi...50+H.P.+(1989-1992)&serial=1989-A+THRU+1992-C
scroll down to your perticular unit.

if for some reason that doesnt work go to www.stemtostern.com click on parts department, Then click "Force", scroll down to the bottom to your motor and click, after that then you'll come to another box that you click and drops down. Find your trim unit and just to the left of that will be a very detailed diagram. I get them from there all the time. Print it out and you golden. Let me know how that turns out.

ps.
if for some reason you end up buying a new one I would be intrested in buying your old unit.

hope that helps.

You might also want to check the check valves in the valve body also mine did that and check valve needed rebuilding.Replace oring on outside of check valve. Check valve body will also come apart and is very small oring inside for check ball and spring....Mercury dealer still has these but i matched mine at hydrolic repair shop.
