Thanks that totally answers my question. Yes my seats are totally enclosed by full height railing and I've been around boats for my entire 41 years which is why I ask what I'm unsure of. Logic told me me the seats I have aren't for high speed travel, but being new to pontoons figured better ask. I plan to replace, but if that means spending $$$ on seats, I want them usable even when under way.

Cool. Lots of options for seating with shorter and stouter pedestals, can get adjustable pedestals, swivels, sliders, lots of nice new stuff available off the shelf for replacing those.

Just bought the new bucket seats and I put them on a king pin style mount, minus the riser for now. I actually have no idea what that mount is rated for, but the risers state less than 5mph, so I'm guessing it should be at least the same for the mount only!! Not to mention, there isn't much risk at all of flying over the railing now, because anyone sitting there is well below the height of the fence!

The lower height actually is fairly comfortable and I got the idea from another pontoon owner with the same seats, who said they tend to take out the riser!

if you have the seat basically on the floor you can fairly safely speed up a bit..... we're not talking about busting 3' waves or running tripple 250 speeds here... just moving along at average toon speed ... removing the long riser substantially reduces the leverage on the mount.

I think it'll be fine if they are behind the rail. I had an incident one time running the toon. We were under way only about 1/4 throttle,20 foot toon,35 hp motor, no water in the toons, six people onboard. The brother in law decided to step up to the front of the toon, ahead of the rail, the stb toon went under pulling the other toon with it,motor came out of the water before I could react. Flooded the deck and I'd imagine if going faster it very well have kept torpedoing, and flipped on everyone. I seem to rember 3 were seated back by me,the others were up front. Thing's happen quickly when on the water, keep a close eye on passengers, load distrubution, speed. I've heard stories of flipped toons after that I can see how quickly they can.
2ft
Had the same thing happen 18ft Bass Buggy 40hp nephews girl friend on fishing seat he jumps up front just as we hit a 2 ft wake at 10 mph,bow went under 2ft killed motor as my wife jumped on back over the rear seat, rear of pontoons 3ft in the air happened much faster than would have believed, nobody rides up front ever again

Hey Master, I hope you don't mind but I was reading your post about the king pin mount and it sounds like it's exactly what Im looking for. I'd like a mounting system where the riser can be taken out for full speed travel and put back in for fishing/trolling. Im putting a floor in my 14' tin boat and a platform over my front bench seat. The floor will be about 10" below the platform. With the riser out I'd like the front person to be able to sit in the seat facing the back with their feet on the floor of the boat. Then while fishing, be able to put the riser in and sit facing forward with their feet on the platform. Does it sound like it will work for what I want and is this what you were talking about?
