Seems like the boats were designed for really short or really tall people. I'm 5'11" & when I'm sitting in the seat the windshield frame is right in my line of sight, so I too need to sit on the top of the seat back. I did see a product offered in an "Overton's" catalog, it's a square seat pad that slips over the top of the seat back & makes a seat on top for you. I have not got around to buying one yet, but looking into it. Just looked it up online: See-more boat seat $39.99

what this topic shows is that boats are not driven like cars, but the manufacturers sell boats designed like cars to those who don't know that. Then than styling driver seat with the wrap around dash board is a pain, not a plus. So any of you boat shoppers, a low-rider is not a good thing in boats.

When we had bow riders growing up, we sat on the seat back (fold-out back to back seats). They didn't age well. With the DC with molded captain's chairs, we drive standing up which is hard on the back, sitting half way, etc. The center consoles are the most comfortable for driving, and you are safer sitting up higher since you are in the middle of the boat. I, like most boaters, find it more natural to stand, but I make myself sit to save the old knees. At night I don't like looking through the windshield, so in the winter I like to be able to look over the top of it easily without having to move.

i fully agree, i have been pondering replacing my seats with adjustable pedastals, but in doing so, i would sacrifice 2 seats. i really like the idea of being high for better vision, and also being able to drop down for those summer showers.

Our old boat I had to sit up above the windshield to see out, but as long as the window is clean in the one we have now I can sit down and look out the window. Our current boat's windshield sits up higher than the bow of the boat and it makes seeing out easy. You can see in sig.
