Bought a 1985 Bayliner w force 50, battery is bad (not marine either) so been looking for a replacement. I found Diehard has a 550 cca marine deep cycle batt for $69.99. Is this sufficient? my boat does not have a stereo or other electronics (yet).

I'd go with a DieHard Marine Starting battery as opposed to the deep cycle. Good batteries. I got 5 years out of mine and when I sold the boat it was still kickin'.

I'm new to boats--Whats the difference between starting and deep cycle? won't deep cycle work for starting?

Re: Size battery for force 50?

I googled and found this:

"A deep-cycle lead-acid battery is designed to be regularly discharged to most of its capacity. In contrast, starter batteries (e.g. most automotive batteries) are designed to deliver sporadic high current for cranking the engine, and to be frequently discharged of only a part of their capacity. While a deep-cycle battery can be used as a starting battery, the lower "cranking amps" imply that an over-sized battery may need to be used."

Find the smallest Marine starting battery you can.
450 Marine cranking amps is enough.

450 cca is certainly enough.
