So I have been working on aquiring another project hull this week. It is a 17-18 foot Santana runabout, that has no outboard, no interior except carpet, and is on a trailer. The floor seems pretty solid, but I will go into it assuming it will need the full meal deal. It is a conventional hull with maybe mid to low teens deadrise, which means it will plane out easier. It is ripe for a center console conversion. What I will do this time is remove the upper section, and eliminate it alotgether. This will create a lower profile, and look more clean. I will then glass in the casting deck, and build up a center console. There are several things I want to do differently.

Since I won't be in a hurry because I already have a functioning boat, I can take my time with this one, and do things the way I want to. The main goal is to have a more finished end result with less compromise. Another goal is less weight. Skanky Beast has grown fat and heavy with add-ons, something I should have taken into account for when building it originally. SB 2 will either use my Merc 1250, or more likely use another motor that I will aquire (I am working on getting an Evinrude 150 hp outboard). If none of this pans out, I may tear SB 1 down over the winter, essentially doing the same thing as described for SB 2, with the goal of lower profile, less weight, more finished appearance.

The Santana was spotted sitting in the driveway of a house in the boonies with a Make Offer sign on it. It still has all the guages, Merc control box, Merc power T/T pump with hoses, and a decent but a bit rusty trailer. I left a note offering $100. I did this because there was another sign laying in the boat asking $500 OBO. My thoughts are, if it didn't go then, $100 isn't a bad amount to offer. I'd probably go higher, but why not start low? Needless to say, I got no call, so yesterday I stopped again, and left another note stating my interest. If I get no response in the next few weeks, I'll simply give up. Of course, I do have my ever vigilant eye open for another, but this one was perfect.

First off, it is white, and the gel was in decent condition. Another thing is the transom cutout went all the way across, which means I could just mount my kicker directly to the transom and skip the kicker mount. Due to the lesser deadrise, the cutout sets higher from the waterline, which means I could eliminate the splashwell altogether, which equals more room and less weight. Anyway, none of it matters if the dude doesn't call. Wish me luck...
