Maybe they make them only for larger motors but it would be worth looking around for Skeg Guard or similar product. Otherwise, the aluminum plate, hacksaw, grinder, welder might be the best way to go. It would be an easy job for a handman type of guy, or just let the welder cut you a piece of plate and weld it on and then you could dress it out with a file or grinder. Probably gonna run you about $50 or $100 any way you do it. Good Luck!
