Hi all, If I install one of those aftermarket stainless steel skeg guard to the skeg, will that effect the performance/speed of the boat?

Re: Skeg guard

We saw no difference other than we replaced a bent skeg and so the boat was a little easier to steer and keep on a straight line especially at lower speeds. It did not impact speed at all.

And what happens under the skeg guard when all that salty water stays in once you pull the boat out?

Re: Skeg guard

The new skeg guard should be filled with the sealant/epoxy thats included before the final installation. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of mine to let any air or excess epoxy out while pressing it on. I had no lose of performance.

Re: Skeg guard

I guess its ok for me because I only use the boat on lakes and rivers, no seawater?
