I have a 1996 Yamaha 40 HP on a 16 ft. aluminum bassboat. I bought the boat used. The previous owner had evidently hit something and hurt the skeg and about one third to one half of the bottom part is missing. I did not want to spend money until I used the boat a little and see how I liked it. I think I will keep it.
Now, do I fix the skeg or not? It seemed to run OK for me and my level of expertise even with the damage. I saw a Skeg Guard stainless steel type cover - but it was over a hundred bucks.....Any advice appreciated. What should I do? Is there a good reason to fix this this winter while it is up...Thank you.
