Considering purchasing a ss skeggard. 2 to cover slightly damaged skegs and 1 to protect brand new etec.
Has anyone ever used one? I'd like to get some real world feedback before spending the 300 something.

I used one. You drill two holes and bolt the skeggaurd on. I really liked it and since my old LU didnt have much of a skeg left...it was perfect. Someone either stole it or it got knocked off one day in the water...I didnt notice it until I was cleaning the boat one day.

Do a Google search for "Blackfin Skeg" or goto www.blackfinskeg.com
It's a composite plastic skeg. Less expensive than the SS skeg guard. And it doesn't require drilling any holes in your drive to mount it.

Just bought one myself, haven't used it yet, but after reading numerous post...It seems like it does the job it was intended for. As far as 300 bucks, I bought mine for 95 bucks thru Overtons (Promo Code of course).

I have used SkegGards on several boats. They work well for both the purposes you mention.

Moving this to Non-repair Outboard. It has nothing to do with Towing or Trailers

I put one on last year and it works great!:) My skeg tip was missing and the skeg was bent. All you need is at least 2 inches of original skeg to mount.

Back in my newbie days I ground the last few inches off my skeg by trailering it with the engine down. "No big deal" I thought. Well, the lakes around here are full of submerged logs, and I ended up replacing the prop every year. Finally bought a skeg guard and installed it. First day out I went shallow and bounced over a rock and still bent the #@!% prop.
