Re: Ski boats

very true oldjeep. a wakeplate and wedge would counter each other. that's no good. no plate even when there's no wedge?

true again on mastercraft. they have a hook designed into the hulls. i don't know if it's all hulls.

i don't have any buddies with new bu's or mc's and i sure can't afford one.

Re: Ski boats

Many of the Mastercraft X2 and X Star guys use a wake plate to knock down boarding and surf wakes on their multisport boats so they can create a moderately acceptable slalom wake.

Re: Ski boats

This thread has turned into a wake plate discussion but since it started with a ski boat question, I thought I would update....bought a 99 Moomba Kanga. :) I want it for skiing but it came with ballast bags and a wake tower so it should be fun.

It is a hard right turn from where I started this summer, looking at outboard bowriders. I just got it home so I have not had it in the water yet. I hope to get it wet once, then learn how to winterize it. That might end up being a whole new thread but I am sure there are some on here on winterizing. I am just starting that research. Indmar got back to me in, literally, about 3 minutes with some instructions for their engines.

Thanks for all the info. Doesn't matter where the discussion goes, there is always something learned.
Thanks, Cheers, Shawn

Congratulations on your Moomba it will be great for what you want to do. My friend has a '04 Moomba Mobius LSV and loves it.

As far as the wake plate is concerned. His does have the single trim tab in the center of the boat and it functions just like the trim tabs on my Stingray. Give it a little deflection and it brings the bow down and stops porpoising. I'm sure it has an effect on the wake, but it trims the boat also.

Also the only way a V8 ski/wakeboard boat will be better on gas than a 4.3L bowrider is in a towing only situation. Cruise both of them at 30-35MPH for a little while and tell me a V8 ski boat is better on gas.

Re: Ski boats

congratulations!

not to divert traffic away from iboats but there's an owner's site for moomba. your google-fu will find it for you. as a percentage, there aren't many inboard owners here. fellow owners can be a wealth of knowledge.

oh yeah...let's see a pic or 2...

Re: Ski boats

I just started poking around the Moomba site. Thanks for that. And another is "onlyinboards" or "inboardsonly". I am a little worried about the winterizing process but once I do it, it should be fine. Sounds like a lot of tubes to pull off. The previous owner was kind enough to write me out his way of doing it and I also contacted Inmar and they sent me there directions. 30F here yesterday morning already so not sure if I will be able to get a ride in it this fall yet or not. Days are warm, just frosty mornings already.

Pix?...sure....proud new owner...and the wife likes it so I am well ahead of the game.:joyous:
