Ski Locker Drainage - One Way Valve?

Sometimes we get water from the bilge backed up into the ski locker. Not sure it happens while running the boat or if it happens only during trailering.

Are there any one way valves that would allow drainage out of the ski locker but prevent it from coming back the other way? The drain from the ski locker and the hole coming into the bilge appear to be roughly the size of an outboards drain plug and are metal lined.

My ski locker has a rubber snap in drain plug that I use while underway. I put that plug in after the garbord drain plug. I leave them both out when on the trailer. Why so much water in your bilge?

Gee, I think the better answer is to pump out the bilge. You do not want the weight of that water in the boat, especially not while trailering.

Do you have an automatic bilge pump? If not, you should look into it.

You could always fashion a scupper onto the end of the drain. Heck, even a rubber flap glued on would prevent the rushs of water and slow it to a dribble. As others have mentioned, the big deal is the amount of water in your bilge.

There is not much water in the bilge but it seems like the inside of the last few inches of the hull is a bit lower than the drain. If this small amount of water comes forward it carries some dirt with it.

No the pump isn't automatic but a pump won't get all the water out anyway. I'll check and see if a standard plug will fit as this would be easy to install just before launching. Water that skiers carry in generally ends up at the rear of the boat and goes straight to the bilge anyway.

Not sure what a scupper is but I'll search iBoats and perhaps someone can post a link.

If you don't haev a problem in the bilge, just plug it with a plug from the hardware store. I ahve two fish lockers that drain overboard but when I use one for dry storage I plug the hole (from the inside) to keep water from splashing up the drain tube. Easy fix.
