Hey guys i have been working on my boat over in the omc section, its a 18 foot wellcraft with a 350 chevy. Anyways it ran for a few hours last time i was at the lake, but i couldnt get up skiing behind it. I had 7 total in the boat, minimal gear. I was able to pull my 225 lb brother up on a wakeboard. But when i tried to get up on a parlir of skis it boged and would eventually pull the rope from my hands. I quit trying when it went through the bikini top and landed in front of the boat 8) .
Im 300lb or so lineman build, is my technique that bad or is there too many people in the boat? I havent skied in 4-5 years and have always had trouble getting up behind outboards, but i figured this thing would rip me out. Boat would run 50 easily with 7 in it so it seems to have plenty of power.

You're doing it wrong. Even at 300lbs, that boat should be able to pull you up on a pair of skis.

Yeah, but why don't you unload 5 of those passengers 750-800# and try again. Weight in the boat is the enemy of performance and that's close to full capacity.

If it is bogging, it sounds like not running right.

Yes i was one over capacity, not to my likings at all, but thats another story. It is bogging some, i need to go through my carb it was having some issues with cutting out at high rpm with a loaded boat and bogging under heavy load its a holley 650 double pumper.
I guess ill watch some videos and see if i can get my technique improved or get to the lake just me and the wife and practice. Its been a while and i have always had trouble getting up on plane, seems like it takes forever.

Maybe you need bigger skis. Connely makes a couple of models for persons 250lb+ One was called Big Daddy

Lean back more, knees bent. If it is pulling the rope from your hands your wrong, leaning too far forward. Wider skiis will make it easier but with a 350 motor, you should have more than enough power. I used to skii behind my dads boat (72 starcraft with a 50hp merc) no problem. I was only about 140 soaking wet then, but still that chevy motor should have no problem with you.
Of course the extra people in the boat is probably a killer, but I would blame your technique with out knowing assuming the motor is sound.
Just sayin'

If it is strong enough to rip the handle from your hands, your technique needs work. Keep in a ball and stay down. As a "big guy" your instinct is to muscle the solution. Let the boat do the work and you'll pop right up. Good Luck!
