I have a 1994 Achilles rib and the skin is peeling off of the cone shaped end piece of the sponson. There are several small blisters and one large area about 2 hand spans.

Any ideas about the cause and solution?

It sounds as though the boat has been painted at some point and it's now coming off. You have to remove as much as you can and then repaint. Unfortunately, if you want the paint job to match you'll have to recover the entire boat.

It would be worth checking with a professional or at least someone who's done it before to get advice on the best brand of paint and how to undertake the job.

Here's some photos of a repaint:

painting may be a good solution, but it has not been painted before. there is clean woven fabric under the skin. I just need to repair about 2 square feet. I don't want to paint the whole boat.

De-lamination...Time to dump the boat. You can not fix delamination. Basically the material layers are separating apart from each other. It's a little early for that to be happening in it's service life, but that's the breaks.

Yeap, a RIP premature issue, defective material on thin exterior coating fabric.

Happy Boating
