...hiya lars,

Its called a bimini top, yup excellent for sun and rain. You can get several styles and makes. Look here on iboats in the internet marina. you can have the type that folds down completely or stands erect with rear supports like in the vid. measure carefully the width of your boat at the console and then whether you want low or high profile. Many sites will give a best fit.

i got mine as tall and wide as possible...so i can walk under it easily, and so it covers as much seating as possible. worked out great, best purchase i made so far on the boat.

Ok thanks. How does the bimini top handle wind?It seems a bit flimsy? Is there any alternative to the bimini top?Something that fits around the windows making it more rigid when running the boat in some wind.I dont know the correct word for what im talking about...argh!Like a harbour top just a bit taller.

... you can opt for stainless steel hardware for the truss mounts, you can put a wood or metal back plate to help strengthen the bind of the mounts as it sandwiches the fiberglass, it will hold up to moderate speeds and winds pretty good. if your windscreen and boat railings have gromets for like a snap on cover, this might be what you are asking. it would be just an original very low profile version of what the boat had as a top. these types are custom fit covers specifically to your boat. good luck finding one of that age in good condition. you can have Leta's Tops make you one but be ready to dole out about a grand.

cheers

my bimini has handled strong winds, and running at around 30-40 mph alot. almost every time we go out, actually. after the initial adjustments, it handles just fine.

I have the exact set-up shown in the video on my boat ('90 Capri). What you see there is the aluminum/metal frame that supports the standard full canvas top. When you undo the canvas top from the front of the windshield frame it folds up against the back frame giving the semi-convertable look. Then you roll the canvas over and over the frame (wrap it up basically) and then use the (original) mini-canvas tube wrap thingy (with full boat width zipper) which goes over the rolled up canvas and keeps it in place. I think a lot of these boats have lost their original framework and canvas stuff by now but it appears that guy still has is. I'm fortunate to still have mine as well.
A bimini (which I would like to get at some point) is a little different and you would probably have to remove that existing frame/canvas which is easy. Basically just (2) removable pins releases it and you can leave the whole thing on the dock or then put up your bimini which might use the same two hull brackets?...I'm not sure about that tho'.
My two bits.
Good Luck
