Re: sledding in a boat? :p

another trick was to use old wooden water skis with the fins removed.

growing up on a big lake these things were everywhere.

we use to pull the fins off, tie a ski rope to the bumper of whatever had snow tires at the moment, and ski though town.

warning!

manhole covers don't freeze.

old wooden skis don't glide well on cast iron.

40mph nose dives on the water, are more fun than on snow and ice covered frozen asphalt.

:eek::eek: The cops must've loved THAT. :eek::eek:
I can just hear the sirens and radio reports now.

lol, here is a youtube video of somebody doing this with an aluminum bass boat:

Now that's too cool.
Reminds of my older brothers pushing me down the hill onto the frozen river to test the ice on a sled though. (I had no choice.)

I'm not sure which one of these is more appropriate to the thread . . .

I'm thinkin how much cheaper sleds are than boats. not to mention easier to launch, maybe instead of shopping at a marina ill just stop ny toy r us, and ive seen it done with a canoe

On a serious note -

Being pulled behind a car/truck in the winter can be fatal.

Co-worker (young guy...was 19 yo)...was tubing behind a truck....whipped around a turn and hit a telephone pole...snapped neck and died instantly.

Ok...back to the the topic.

Ok...slightly off topic. I use to deliver pizzas...in college...in the winter. The insulated bags work GREAT as sleds. Boss never figured out why the bags were always so beaten up after delivers to the house on the hill. :)

Yes, I was once young and stupid. Don't do this. It is a wonder we all lived.

Sad!:(:(:(:(:(

I warned you about Mailboxes, at the very best they hurt, at the worst, see above.

Really, don't do this.

Sounds very dangerous to use a boat to go sledding as many people are injured on sleds and tubes designed for use on the snow. I can just imagine how bad things would be if things really went wrong.

For those who really want to do it though, check out the way this guy has done it, rather interesting:

Make sure you see the videos!

i know i know an oldy but i missed it the first go around!!

i have done it with a flat bottom and a 4-wheeler............ in my pasture of course.

heres a story i posted on another thread:

one winter when we had a good snow a bunch of us hooked my cousins 12' flatbottom onto the back of my suped up 250 quadracer........... it was fun one at a time, with 2 or more the 4-wheeler couldnt get enough traction to take off fast and recover from turns well. after playing in the field for a while we decided to find at least one stretch of smoother ground and ended up hitting a elec pole head on with the boat during a swinging turn ........ my cousin was in the boat but he was ok, it was hilarious watching him fly from the back of the boat head first into the front seat........ its a good thing he was wearing a helmet, but the only reason we were wearing it at first was because of all the debris flying off those wooly booger tires . we played until we were so cold, and hurt from crashes, that we had to limp back inside(literally for some of us lol) and recuperate .

i dont remember who suggested skis but its a bad idea............. of course we did try it in a pasture with cows in it......... not the smoothest place in the world to try ad ski lol.

Re: sledding in a boat? I Have!!!

Moved from NH to Ohio in 1987 and took this little boat with us. One snow storm, a hill in a neighbors back yard and this little boat made for some great fun. Hell of a time getting it back to the top of the hill though!
