1987 70hp Johnson--been chasing electrical issues for several months, since I bought this motor used--the 20A fuse blows, usually at high RPMs.
I have replaced the regulator, solonoid, the wiring harness ($$!) and the controls (with a used set). A good mechanic did the work, and twice worked on the wiring of the controls. But obviously there is a short somewhere.
I noticed a slight tingling (shock) if my hands are wet when touching the metal throttle handle and the SS steering wheel. Besides an obvious frayed wire in the controls, where might I look for this "leak"? Anyone else see something like this? I feel like this must be a clue for this odd short's location--tried everything else.
PS the 20A fuse line covers just the starter, fuel guage and PTT. I know when it blows when the fuel guage drops.
