Slight Leak Trim Cylinder - Father’s Day?

Hi All,

After my SX Cobra sat in winter storage for 9 months, I found the trim had dropped a few inches and the trim cylinders are leaking slightly. I powered up the trim motor and raised the engine back up. It raised without a problem.
I have an appointment with my mechanic Monday 6/21. I would really love to take this out for Father’s Day on 6/20. Do you think it’s worth the risk? Is this just the beginning of a bad seal and can go one more day in the water or is this not worth the risk of losing my trim?
Thank you

Those trim cylinders are sometimes "sweating" when they sit untouched for longer periods. Same story with some of the motorcycle front forks - unwrap them in the spring and the shocks are sweating, take it for a spin and they are bone-dry for the rest of the season. So I suggest take a break cleaner can, clean them up, smear whatever motor oil on the pistons, wipe them down with cloth (an unvisible layer of oil is still there), run them up and down ten times, wipe again down with cloth and see after a day if they are sweating. My bet is they are good to go.

Oh wow. Ok. Thank you guys. I really thought the replies were going to be along the lines of “do you want us to tell you the truth or tell you want you want to hear?” Sounds great. Thanks for the help. On the off chance something does happen, my trim pump is mounted inside the engine capartment, on the transom port side. Accessible from the battery compartment door. Is this where I would find the relief screw also, in case I had to lift the motor manually? I found the fill screw, maybe opening the fill screw would serve the same purpose? Thanks!

Google search volvopentaparts @ hotmail.com ...... They have an upgraded kit that repaires both cylinders and replaces rod seal O-ring with a hydraulic seal and also a 1 piece piston seal..
