1990 4.3l merc with 2 bbl carb. 175hp
I don't think this is much to be concerned about, but thought I would ask anyway. The boat has been quite a handful since the new rebuilt installed last year.
It will pop once through the carb and surge a bit while getting up on on plane the first time each day. I let it warm up before I power up the first time, but it is very consistent. Then it runs great for the rest of the day. It runs along very well at a steady 150F on plane and 120F when idling along.
Compression is fine. new wires and rotor. I completely drained the fuel tank and put fresh gas in it. Don't see obvious evidence of water in oil - maybe I should extract a little oil from the bottom of the pan to be sure.
Overall, very happy with the motor once it has been up on plane once. Is it possible that I am over chocking or idling it too slow at start up, resulting in temporary wet fouling of the spark plugs?
