How did the citrus growers make out?

Where Ross (bwr1953) and I are is at the northern end of the citrus belt. They have been running smudge posts, but that didn't help that much due to the extended cold. My trees are five years old and we could not save any leaves..but we had already picked the fruit. That was not the case for the commercial growers, still a lot of fruit on the trees. We will just have to see the ag reports..

I'm way to old for that chit. I have a bucket of sand in the back porch, and if the stoop is icy, it gets a handful of sand before I step on it.

I'm too old for it too... which is why I moved AWAY from that kind of yucky weather 12 years ago. Not supposed to get that kind of weather down here, which was the point of this thread.

Got up to 75? here today and I did start getting ready to put the boat in the water and go fishing. Charged both batteries full up, then decided to fire up the Mercury at home to be sure it would start out on the water. I'm glad I did, because it didn't.

The starter had been acting up on my last trip, but I thought it was just a loose battery connection. Replaced the bolts and tightened them securely this morning, but the motor wouldn't turn over. Just a click. Bummer. Would have been nice to get out on the water today. It's the time of year when the sea trout and grouper move back into the creeks... including where I launch.

Re: Slipped on the ICE today!

Man I've got to get some fishing in this year...

Back to another slipped on the ice story.

I was warming up the car to take my son to school and from the back seat I heard my 6 year old at the time say "I think Darren is dead". I take a look over and my neighbour is laying in a heap on the sidewalk. The dude is in his thirties but has a phoney leg (my wife give me sh*t for calling it that as it is an artificial leg...I'm trying to bring the word phoney back)

Apparently he wiped out on the ice on the sidewalk. My wife and I pick him up from under the shoulders and we carry him in and lay him down on the floor. From the look on his face I knew me f'ed something up big time. Turns out that when he fell he shattered his hip and had to have a phoney hip joint put in as well.

He's ok now as he's working construction, landscaping, etc so the new bionic stuff works well I guess.

Moral of the story. Ice your sidewalks so no one else gets gimped :)

Yup. Sand was more like it. I spelled it wrong. I was only off by 4 letters.

If I iced the sidewalks I'd really be a plick wouldn't I? :)
